A Way to Help
A Way to Help
The funding for the following projects will be through Kabultec (Nasrine's 10 year old US company). We are in the process of getting a non-profit status for Kabultec so all funding will be tax-deductible. The projects are in two categories: Long term projects and short term, one time only, projects. Below is a list of the short term projects.
-
We want to help refurbish two provincial universities:
-
The one in Faizabad has a medical school. This school lacks textbooks and materials.
-
The Albiruni University in Gulbahar was burnt by the Taliban twice and as a result the library does not have even one book. The University also wants to have either a girls' dormitory or extension courses for girls in the surrounding villages. These two projects need supplies, books, materials and funding.
-
Musical Instruments: The Taliban smashed musicians' musical instruments, burned their notes and tortured the artists. We would like to collect a few musical instruments and materials to distribute among the traumatized musicians. This project needs material and some funding.
-
School Supplies: We would like as much as possible to take school supplies that are not provided by the AID and the UNICEF back-to-school initiatives. AID is providing 9.6 million textbooks by March 22nd, first day of school, and UNICEF is providing the other necessities for all elementary schools. We want to supplement with: School supplies, library books, magazines, solar-powered teaching aids and materials. This project requires these materials plus some funding for the distribution activities in-country.
-
Health and Peace-promoting Building Materials: We want to provide health building supplies to students and teachers that promote well-being --we mean vitamins for one year and health and peace promoting posters and materials. This project requires supplies and some funding for distribution in-country.
-
Sewing Clubs: We have two sewing projects in the rural areas. We want to give sewing machines, sewing supplies and kits as well as rudimentary funding to two groups of illiterate women to generate income. This project requires supplies and some funding both for distribution and startup activities.
-
Professional Clothes: We want to supply professional clothes to all Kabul University professors. We are collecting sets of clothes for men and women. This project requires clothing donations plus a small monetary donation to defray the costs of distribution in Kabul.
